St. Kenny School was formed from the amalgamation of Walshestown, Glascorn and Ballinea schools. The new school was opened in 1980 as a mixed school catering for boys and girls from the immediate catchment area and also the catchment areas of the schools which were closed.
The school is organised into 9 single classes. In all subjects the curriculum is matched to cater for children of different abilities, including children with special educational needs. At present we have 15 teachers on the staff including the principal, nine class teachers and 5 full-time Special Education Teachers (SET). At present we also have four Special Needs Assistants employed in the school.
St. Kenny School is a Catholic school under the patronage of Most Rev. Thomas Deenihan, Bishop of Meath. The school depends on the grants and teaching resources provided by the Department of Education and Science and it operates within the regulations laid down from time to time by the Department. School policy must have regard to the resources and funding available. The school follows the curricular programmes prescribed by the Department of Education and Science, which may be amended from time to time, in accordance with sections 9 and 30 of the Education Act (1998)
