St. Kenny School has a proud tradition in the promotion of Sport. Along with our P.E. Programme pupils take part in the following:

Cumann na mBunscol

Each year we enter the Boys and Girls Football competition as part of Westmeath Cumann na mBunscol. We have done very well in this competition and have won both the boys and girls competition on many occasions. In the girls competition we were Division 2 winners in 2006, 2014 and 2019.

In the boys competition we won our first Division 1 title ever in 2018, followed by a successful defence of the title in 2019. After a two-year break from the competition due to Covid-19, we won our third consecutive Division 1 title in 2022.

We also take part in the INTO mini sevens and have had representatives from the school compete in the mini sevens in Croke Park.

Pupils from the school are encouraged to join our local G.A.A. club, Shandonagh and to participate in Gaelic games outside school.

Soccer

Each year we participate in the FAI Schools competition.

In 2010 we won the Westmeath FAI Schools competition and went on to win the North Leinster title. We were beaten in the Leinster Final in Navan.

Swimming

All pupils in 1st -6th class take part in 7 weeks swimming lessons per year in Mullingar Swimming Pool. Three/four instructors implement this programme in aquatics and all pupils get a chance to develop and improve their swimming skills. Pupils often attend other swimming pools such as the National Aquatic Centre as part of the annual school tour.

Cycling Programme

Every second year 5th and 6th Class take part in the Westmeath Sports Partnership cycling programme.

All pupils completed the programme and received certificates and cycling safety equipment.

Horse Riding

Pupils from the school who do horse-riding outside of school join the school team which participates in local schools' competitions in Mullingar Equestrian Centre.

Rugby

The school takes part in the Schools Rugby programme in conjunction with Westmeath Sports Partnership. Fifth and Sixth Class participate in the Tag Rugby Blitzes organised through this programme.
